Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 medium russet potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked. Add diced onions and sauté until translucent.
  3. Stir in thinly sliced potatoes, followed by garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. In a bowl, combine milk and cheddar cheese until smooth. Pour over the meat and potatoes mixture.
  5. Transfer to a greased baking dish; cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Allow to cool slightly before serving; top with optional green onions or sour cream if desired.
